How to choose the load range and travel of your balancer

Start with two measurements: the complete load the balancer will support and the movement the tool needs. The mounting height then helps define the installation.

Include everything supported by the balancer

The balanced load includes the tool, its accessories and the portions of hoses or cables carried by the balancer. Weigh the assembly in its working configuration, including any coupling, bracket, gripper or other suspended equipment.

Worked example using illustrative values

Suspended component Mass
Tool 3.6 kg
Accessory attached to the tool 0.4 kg
Supported portion of the hoses 0.5 kg
Total load to balance 4.5 kg

In this example, a 4–6 kg range includes the 4.5 kg load. A 6–8 kg range starts too high. Check both ends of the stated range: choosing only by the maximum capacity can lead to an unsuitable device.

If several tool configurations will be used, provide the mass of each one. The balancer’s own weight is a separate specification used to size its suspension and supporting structure.

Measure the tool’s working movement

Identify the highest and lowest positions required during work. The device’s working travel must cover this movement. Also provide the mounting height and the required working height so that tool accessibility can be checked.

If the operator moves along a bench or between workstations, include the dimensions of this area in your request. The support or any trolley is selected as part of the installation; a longer cable alone does not define that requirement.

Use an extension to adjust the working height

An end extension connects the balancer cable to the load to lower the working area. It does not wind onto the drum and does not increase the device’s working travel. A balancer with 2 m travel therefore still has 2 m travel when a compatible 1 m end extension is added.

For more movement, choose a reference with greater working travel or a travel variant explicitly offered by the manufacturer. To adjust the height, select an extension and connections compatible with the complete product reference.

Turn your measurements into a selection

Enter the total load and minimum travel in the selector. To have an installation reviewed, include a sketch showing the suspension point, both tool positions and the complete reference of any existing device.
