Positioners: keep equipment at the required height
Height positioning
The Kromer 5250 positioner lets you move suspended equipment manually to a chosen height and hold it there with an adjustable brake. Keep a power supply unit or scanner within reach while clearing the work surface.

How does a positioner work?
Guide the load upwards or downwards. When released, the adjustable brake holds it at the chosen position. On the 5250, the spring only rewinds the cable: you adjust the braking force, rather than a weight-compensating spring.
Position can be maintained as the suspended weight changes, provided that the selected version’s load range is respected and the brake is adjusted appropriately. One example is a suspended energy distribution unit whose load changes when tools are connected or disconnected.
When should you choose one?
- Power supply and energy distribution units suspended above a workstation.
- Hand-held scanners and light equipment that need to remain within reach.
- Assembly workstations where equipment needs a chosen storage height above a clear work surface.
Positioner, balancer or retractor?
- 5250 positioner
- Holds a chosen height with an adjustable brake; its spring rewinds the cable.
- Tool balancer
- Compensates for tool weight with a spring adjusted to the load, supporting movement.
- Tecna balancer with option F
- Adds an adjustable brake to the weight-compensating spring, from light slowing to a complete stop. Holding applications can therefore overlap.
- Retractor
- Returns the load to its rest position when released.

Frequently asked questions
Does the 5250 need an additional brake option?
No. The adjustable brake is part of the 5250 positioner’s operating principle. Tecna options F and B/B1 do not apply to this product.
Is it equivalent to a balancer with a brake?
Holding applications can overlap, but the designs differ: the 5250 is adjusted through its brake, while a Tecna balancer with option F retains its weight-compensating spring. Choose according to weight, weight variation and required movement.
